Biography
Originally from Kittery ME, John holds a BA in Theatre from the University of Maine and an MFA in Acting from the Catholic University of America. He spent several years as an actor and director with a number of small theatre companies in Portsmouth NH - usually at the Players Ring - and in summer stock with the Peterborough Players, Lost Nation Theatre, and Acadia Repertory Theatre. In NYC, he studied with the legendary Austin Pendleton at HB Studio (his first class was on 9/11). In Washington DC, he worked with many regional and small professional companies, including Studio Theatre, Folger Theatre, Everyman Theatre, Avant Bard and Constellation Theatre. He wrote a critically acclaimed performance piece, BAD HAMLET, a mash-up of the 'Bad' Quarto and First Folio editions of Hamlet, that won Best Experimental Production at the 2009 Capital Fringe Festival. In Boston, he served as president of the Small Theatre Alliance of Boston, an entity that provides mutual support and advocacy for small and emerging theatre companies. He appeared with several Boston area theatre companies including New Rep, Greater Boston Stage, and notable smaller companies like Bad Habit and Theatre on Fire. He was co-founder and Founding Artistic Director of the award-winning Hub Theatre Company of Boston, known for their Pay What You Can ticketing. He is a proud co-parent of a kindergartener. Relocating back to the Washington DC area in 2017, John has written reviews and articles for DC Theatre Scene and DC Theatre Arts while keeping a toe in the water...
